When we Limit the Ministry of Jesus

Mea e 'ai e tatau ma le aso
“Where then do You get that living water?” (John 4:11).

“The well is deep”—and even a lot deeper than the Samaritan woman knew! (4:11).  Just think of the depths of human nature and human life; think of the depth of the “wells” stored in your life.
Have you been limiting, or impoverishing, the ministry of Jesus to the point that He is unable to work in your life?   Just suppose that you have a deep “well” of hurt and pain troubled inside your heart, and Jesus says to you, “Let not your heart be troubled ” (John 14:1).

Would you shrug your shoulders and say, “But, Lord, the well is too deep, and even You can’t draw up comfort out of it.” Actually, that statement is correct.
Jesus doesn’t bring anything up from the wells of human nature—He brings them down from above.
We limit the Holy One of Israel by remembering only what we have allowed Him to do for us in the past, and also by saying, “Of course, I cannot expect God to do this, I've got to do this on my own.”
The thing that approaches the very limits of His power is the very thing we as disciples of Jesus ought to believe He will do.  We limit and weaken His ministry in us the moment we forget He is the almighty.  We may feel that a Big God cannot fit into our small human frailties.

The impoverishment is in us, not in Him.  We will come to Jesus for Him to be our comforter and our sympathizer, but we often refrain from approaching Him as our Almighty Lord and Savior.
The reason some of us are such poor examples of Christianity is that we failed to recognize that Christ "IS" the almighty God.  We have weak attributes and experiences, but we lack abandonment of it or total surrender to Jesus Christ.

When we get into difficult times, we diminish His ministry by saying, “Yeah, He can’t do anything about this.”  We struggle to reach the bottom of our own well, trying to get water for our own selfishness and insecurities.    The Psalmist said  "Yea, they turned back and tempted God and limited the Holy One of Israel." (Psalms 78:41)  Wow! people... Family...this verse points to the poor weak human beings can actually limit the Great God of the Universe.  Is that even possible? How could that be?

The Bible says they tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.  In spite of their miraculous deliverance from the hand of Pharaoh, God's people doubted that God was with them, and that He would take care of them.  And the Bible says that this lack of faith limited God in what He wanted to do for them.

Notice what the people said in (Matthew 13:55,56) "Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And his brothers James and Joses and Simon and Judas?. . . And they were offended in him. . . . And he (Jesus) did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief."  Because of their unbelief.

Beware my friends of sitting back, and saying, “It can’t be done.”  You will know it can be done if you look to Jesus.   "... The things which are impossible with men are possible with God." (Luke 18:27)  The well of your incompleteness runs deep, but "with Jesus, anything is possible."  Make the effort today to look away from yourself, and look toward Him.  “Where then do You get that living water?”
